The Empty Chair
The holidays have a way of reopening every loss. The Empty Chair is a free eight-week online support group for anyone grieving a death or any other loss that makes the holidays hard, including divorce and estrangement. We meet on Thursday evenings from November 5 through December 24, with Week 4 on Wednesday, November 25, the night before Thanksgiving. Each gathering runs ninety minutes and is hosted by ZoeTable. The group size is also limited so everyone has room to be heard.
Lance and Deanna Flood lead each session. We begin with a candle lit at home and a short message of hope, and then the rest of the night belongs to conversation. Each person gets real time to talk, the questions are thoughtful, and no one is ever pressured to speak. Participants also receive weekly PDF notes with Scripture and reflection questions, plus a simple practice to carry through the week, and the series ends with an 11 pm Christmas Eve candlelight service.
